The Strange Stores (SS) (Happe, 1994) comprise a series of 24 very short texts that involve a non-literal statement towards the end. Each represents one of 12 exchange types: lies, white lies, jokes, pretence, misunderstandings, persuasion, double bluff, contrary emotions, appearance/reality, figure of speech and sarcasm. It tests children's theory of mind.

The BRIEF-2 is a set of questionnaires for parents, teachers, and now also older students (ages 11-18), to evaluate executive function from multiple perspectives. Theoretically and statistically derived scales measure such aspects of behavior as the ability to control impulses, move freely between situations, modulate responses, anticipate future events, and keep track of the effect of ones behavior on others. It can also be used to assess children who have either developmental or acquired neurological conditions such as learning disabilities, attention disorders, traumatic brain injury, lead exposure, pervasive developmental disorders, depression, and other developmental, neurological, psychiatric, and medical conditions.

The Conners Kiddie Continuous Performance Test 2nd Edition™ (Conners K–CPT 2™) assesses attention deficits in young children.The performance-based assessment uses pictures of objects (e.g. boat, soccer ball, train) that are familiar to young children. The child needs to respond to targets (all objects except soccer ball) and refrain from responding to non-targets (soccer ball) that appear on the computer screen.
